Know what we really dig? Cupcakes, happy hour and the Internet.
Know what else? Smart folks using WordPress to change the world.
In the WordCamp spirit of growing our knowledge and leveraging amazing technology to do cool things on the Web, we are starting the WordCamp Houston Scholarship to help support Houston area college students get their learn on at their respective schools.
All WordCamp Houston profits are going towards this scholarship fund. This means that your ticket and sponsorship dollars are going to work to help support some WordPress-happy college students!
Sounds cool – how can I donate? (let’s talk WordCamp Houston t-shirts)
We want to give you an extra opportunity to support our WordCamp Houston Scholarship by requesting an OPTIONAL $5 donation for your WordCamp Houston t-shirts.
Our conference t-shirts are pretty groovy (can’t wait to show them to you!) and your $5 (or more, if you’re feeling it) scholarship donation will just make it look that much more attractive on your generous self.
Want a shirt, but don’t want to donate to the scholarship fund? No worries, we get how much each one of you already contributes to the community and love you no matter what. Wear those Wordcamp Houston colors with pride!
Excited about supporting local college students, but don’t particularly want a t-shirt? That’s totally cool too. Our donation bucket won’t judge you for going naked. Neither will we.
Can I receive or nominate my favorite college student for a scholarship?
Totally! Stay tuned to the WordCamp Houston blog (which you are looking at right now, you smart thing you) and we’ll be announcing how to submit your favorite student WordPress user and lover.
Thanks to all of our sponsors, volunteers and supporters for helping WordCamp Houston come together. We are beside ourselves at connecting with our college student community with this sponsorship opportunity – and we just couldn’t do it without every single one of you!

So, it’s been quite a rewarding experience putting on Houston’s first WordCamp. With Matt Mullenweg coming to town and a hunger for WordPress knowledge, the event quickly grew into something we had hoped but not imagined.
Luckily we didn’t have to do this alone. Shortly after announcing, we were approached by Houston-based HostGator about “doing the biggest thing [they] possibly [could].” It’s not everyday that something like that happens for an event. “It’s Houston, this is our home. We’ve got to do it,” was the sentiment. Wow, we thought. That’s what we said when we started this thing. And with that, we happily joined forces.
Look for some great surprises for attendees and non-attendees alike. We’ve got some other things planned for everyone, so keep your eyes peeled. There’s more fun in store. And everyone welcome, with similar generosity, HostGator as Presenting Sponsor of WordCamp Houston 2010. We would not be able to do it without them.

As many of you know, we’ve had a giant response to Houston’s first-ever WordCamp event.
